Reading has become a challenge for me, but not a chore.

I am feeling some pressure to catch up before I fall too far behind in my commitment to read the Bible in 90 Days. It is doable, I think. It just means I need to block out more time to read the Word, and get it done. I don't like making excuses for myself, or why I am so far behind. I just am. Yet, I am reading. I am almost done with Deuteronomy. I actually have found Deuteronomy to be very intriguing because I discovered that Jesus often quotes from this book of the Old Testament.

I had missed the last two Sunday evenings, one from illness, the other from an obligation I had already promised prior to beginning this study. I am looking forward to meeting with my friends from church this Sunday night, and hearing what God has been doing in everyone's life.

My week so far has been difficult. I am struggling to remain optimistic about finding work. I have been an long term unemployed person. Let's just say in August, if I haven't got a job, I will be celebrating my 5th year of forced retirement. Financially, I am ruined. I am dependent on God totally to help me with my needs. I was blessed a couple of weeks ago to help paint our house with a man from my church who greatly encouraged me. The money I earned has to go towards paying for traffic school and my speeding ticket, of which I acquired in December 2011, on a return trip home from Central California.

It seems just when things are starting to look up they get even harder. I have to get new glasses as a result of some pretty nasty scratches in my lenses that occurred accidentally when I was cleaning my spectacles. I have no money, no job, no health coverage, just the grace of God, and the people He puts in my life to help me. This is an urgent prayer request, as I have many needs, and feel this one very important.

Getting back to the Bible. I want to emphasize that it is important to keep reading even if you feel like you are falling behind. Read, and read often as possible, every moment you get. I have started using an MP3 player to listen to the O.T. when I have my quiet times or when I go walking. I find it uplifting and easier to focus on what God's Word says when I am tuned in, no pun intended.

Keep on keepin' on.

In Christ,

Kirk

Reading the Bible in 90 Days- Introduction

Hi. If you have never read the Bible all of the way through, or have tried but fell short either by daily distractions or the feeling you are overwhelmed when you have tried to read, you are not alone. Like you, I have tried to read all of the way through the Bible. I have read most of the Bible, but I would find an excuse to not read. I am not going to offer any excuses here. I think when you are challenged to read something from start to finish there is an underlying plan for one to fail, and then you feel disappointed that you failed in your efforts. Well, don't be too hard on yourself. I am going to be here with you reading the Bible for the next 90 days.

The purpose of this particular blog is to keep you posted on what is happening in the daily readings. In this Blog I will post the Bible reading plan so you know where you ought to be. Fear not! If you should fall a little behind, don't give up. Pick up where you left off and continue reading. I think the best way to follow this reading schedule is to recognize that it is a goal or benchmark. Most people don't read too fast. I am one of those people. However, when you read your Bible, come to think of it as eating. If you don't eat, you go hungry, and then you don't feel well as a result of starving yourself. Your spirit requires nourishment just as your body does, and reading daily at a set time helps to keep this balanced and in perspective.

When you decide to commit to reading for 90 days, keep your promise, because that is what a commitment is, and no matter how difficult it may seem sometime to read, stick with the reading at a time when you are best able to read undisturbed so you can spend time alone with God. It is a good idea to pray before you read, too, so that you can ask God to guide you as you read. What has worked for me when I read, is, I read when I get up for a half hour. Sometime during the day I will also read for 15 minutes or so, it does go fast, and later in the evening I close my day with time in God's Word, too. What it all comes down to for you is this, reading the Bible is not a chore, and should not be considered as such. The Bible is God's love letter to you. He is reaching out to you so that you might discover Him, and let Him in to your heart.

I hope that you will enjoy reading the Bible over the next 90 days. It is going to be an exciting journey, one where you will learn much. Don't be afraid to write questions down and discuss what you learn with other believers.

Sincerely,

Kirk
