Reading the Bible in 90 Days- Introduction

Hi. If you have never read the Bible all of the way through, or have tried but fell short either by daily distractions or the feeling you are overwhelmed when you have tried to read, you are not alone. Like you, I have tried to read all of the way through the Bible. I have read most of the Bible, but I would find an excuse to not read. I am not going to offer any excuses here. I think when you are challenged to read something from start to finish there is an underlying plan for one to fail, and then you feel disappointed that you failed in your efforts. Well, don't be too hard on yourself. I am going to be here with you reading the Bible for the next 90 days.

The purpose of this particular blog is to keep you posted on what is happening in the daily readings. In this Blog I will post the Bible reading plan so you know where you ought to be. Fear not! If you should fall a little behind, don't give up. Pick up where you left off and continue reading. I think the best way to follow this reading schedule is to recognize that it is a goal or benchmark. Most people don't read too fast. I am one of those people. However, when you read your Bible, come to think of it as eating. If you don't eat, you go hungry, and then you don't feel well as a result of starving yourself. Your spirit requires nourishment just as your body does, and reading daily at a set time helps to keep this balanced and in perspective.

When you decide to commit to reading for 90 days, keep your promise, because that is what a commitment is, and no matter how difficult it may seem sometime to read, stick with the reading at a time when you are best able to read undisturbed so you can spend time alone with God. It is a good idea to pray before you read, too, so that you can ask God to guide you as you read. What has worked for me when I read, is, I read when I get up for a half hour. Sometime during the day I will also read for 15 minutes or so, it does go fast, and later in the evening I close my day with time in God's Word, too. What it all comes down to for you is this, reading the Bible is not a chore, and should not be considered as such. The Bible is God's love letter to you. He is reaching out to you so that you might discover Him, and let Him in to your heart.

I hope that you will enjoy reading the Bible over the next 90 days. It is going to be an exciting journey, one where you will learn much. Don't be afraid to write questions down and discuss what you learn with other believers.

Sincerely,

Kirk
